Road rage case: Video of mother-daughter duo’s argument with truck driver goes viral

Jajpur: Days after Jajpur police arrested a truck driver on the charge of mowing down a woman and her daughter on NH-53 near Barada Chowk under Dharmasala block here, a video of the mother-daughter duo having a heated argument with the accused just minutes before the tragedy, has gone viral on social media today.

The clip, captured by the onlookers, could be a crucial evidence for police as it is believed that the driver had intentionally run his vehicle over the two women after they had an altercation with him.

As per reports, Shritika Chakravarthy (47) and daughter Lipika (25) of Sukinda were returning from Mahakalapada in Kendrapara after attending the 10th day rituals of the former’s father. On their way home, as a speeding truck tried to overtake them near Aruha Chowk on NH-53, the duo halted the vehicle and had a heated exchange with the driver. As the war of words got uglier, locals gathered and tried to intervene. Sritika and Lipika were then persuaded to resolve the issue and return home. Minutes later, the driver reportedly ran them over in a fit of anger at Barada Chowk wihin Jenapur police limits, killing them at the spot.

On getting information, police reached the spot. A case was registered taking suo moto cognizance of the incident and the driver, identified as Amar Swain of Totakana village, arrested.

Initially, the incident appeared to be a road mishap. Police came to know about the real picture while probing the incident, sources said.

Sritika, wife of Ashok Chakravarthy, was working at Panchayat office in Sukinda while Lipika was an employee of the Union Bank of India at Duburi.
