Street named after AR Rahman in Canada

Bhubaneswar: Oscar winning musician AR Rahman has got a street named after him in Canada, adding another feather in his cap.

The city of Markham honoured the music maestro from India by naming a street after him, a tweet by AR Rahman revealed today.

“The name A.R. Rahman is not mine. It means merciful. The merciful is the quality of the common God we all have and one can only be the servant of merciful. So let that name bring peace, prosperity, happiness and health to all people living in Canada. God bless you all,” Rahman wrote in a message.

He shared a few photographs of the event in which he was honoured with a Canadian street named after him.

Earlier in 2013, a street in Markham had been christened “Allah-Rakha Rahman st” in honour of the AR Rahman.

The eminent musician has received many international accolades including Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe.

In 2010, he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award, for his contribution to Indian music.
