Two dead, five injured as car hits truck on NH-16 in Odisha’s Jajpur

It is suspected that the mishap, which took place early in the morning, could have occured due to fog and consequent low visibility. 

Jajpur: A trip to seek Maa Tarini’s blessings met a tragic end as two persons died and five others suffered injuries after their car collided with a truck on NH-16 in Odisha’s Jajpur district here today. The deceased were identified as Biswajit Maiti and Diptaprabha Panda from Erasama in Jagatsinghpur district. All the other injured victims too were from the same place. It is suspected that the mishap, which took place early in the morning, could have occured due to fog and consequent low visibility.

As per reports, seven persons from Erasama block in Jagatsinghpur district were going to Ghatagaon Taraini in Keonjhar in the wee hours today when their car collided with a truck from behind on NH 16 at Mulapala Chhak under Kuakhia police limits of Jajpur district. Such was the impact of the collision that Biswajit and Diptaprabha died on the spot. The others suffered critical injuries.

On getting information, police reached the spot and rushed the victims to Dharmasala hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the collision was due to poor visibility. The bodies were seized for autopsy and further investigation is underway, police said.
