Veterinary officer under Vigilance scanner for accepting bribe in Odisha’s Deogarh

Reamal: A team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths today caught a block veterinary officer (BVO) red-handed when the BVO was accepting a bribe. The BVO works in Reamal block of Deogarh district.

The BVO identified as Dr. Susmita Sethi has been apprehended by the Vigilance team while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant, who is a poultry farmer, to submit an asset verification report in his favour for the release of a pending subsidy bill towards the construction of a poultry farm in his village under a State government scheme, an official source expressed.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dr. Sethi and later seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two different locations associated with the BVO from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle, a senior Vigilance official stated.

A Rourkela Vigilance PS case (No-05, dated 20.03.2024, under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered in this connection and a detailed probe is in progress against the BVO.
