Weather forecast: Rainfall activity to reduce in Odisha from today

Bhubaneswar: Despite low pressure area formed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Thailand coast, the rainfall activity is likely to reduce in Odisha from today.

“Reduction in rainfall intensity is very likely over the districts of Odisha from today. There may be cloudy sky with no large change in night temperature,” informed Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre today.

However, under influence of low pressure which is likely to intensify further, the rainfall may occur at many places over the districts of southern part of Odisha from November 17.

“Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at many places over districts of south coastal Odisha with heavy falls at isolated places over the district of Gajapati and Ganjam,” the MeT predicted.

As per IMD observations, the trough from the cyclonic circulation over north interior Tamil Nadu to Gangetic West Bengal across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

The Low Pressure Area over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Thailand coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level persists. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over north Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal by 15th November. Then it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further and reach near Andhra Pradesh coast around 18th November, 2021.

Several models indicated that the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of west-central Bay of Bengal during 16th–18th November and along and off south Odisha coasts on 17th & 18th November 2021. Fishermen whoever out at Sea are advised to return to coast by 17th November 2021.
