When is Pana Sankranti in 2024? Mukti Mandap clears confusion, fixes date

Bhubaneswar: The uncertainty surrounding the celebration date of Pana Sankranti 2024 was resolved with the Mukti Mandap of the Shree Jagannath Temple confirming April 14 as the day.

Confusion had arisen regarding the date of Pana Sankranti. While some almanac makers suggested April 13, others argued for April 14.

Putting an end to all speculations, the Mukti Mandap decisively declared April 14 as the day for Pana Sankranti celebrations across the state.

‘Pana Sankranti’ or ‘Maha Bishuba Sankranti’ marks the Odia New Year with the introduction of new Panjika, which is an almanac of Hindu religious festivals, timings and predictions for the year.

People mark the advent of the New Year by drinking pana, a sweet-sour drink made with bael (wood apple), fruits and sugar.

Devotees also perform special puja on the occasion, which is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman.
