Yellow alert: Thunderstorm with lightning likely in these Odisha districts till May 15

Bhubaneswar: With prevalent trough from north Bihar to north Odisha across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal becoming less marked, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind is very likely to occur at one or two places over several districts of Odisha till May 15. The IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar today issued Yellow alert for the next five days.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD mentioned, “Maximum temperatures observed marked fall at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, appreciable fall at one or two places over the districts of North Odisha, appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha & South Coastal Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly below normal at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably below normal at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, below normal at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha , above normal at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Temperature forecast: No large change in Maximum (day) temperature during next three to four days and a rise by 2°C to 4°C thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Highest maximum temperature of 42.2°C was recorded yesterday at Nuapada and the lowest minimum temperature of 23.0°C was recorded at Nuapada and Keonjhar in the plains of Odisha.

For Saturday (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Boudh.

For Sunday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 13.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Odisha and at a few places over the districts of South Odisha.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Cuttack.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Khurda, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Puri, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
