Youth held for killing friend in ‘inebriated state’ in Deogarh in Odisha

Sources said on Wednesday evening, the duo had met and consumed liquor together. They reportedly had some argument over an issue which led to the crime.

Deogarh: Police today arrested a youth for allegedly killing his friend in a drunken state in Reamal block of Deogarh district in Odisha. The incident was reported in Goida village of Kantabahala panchayat within Kundheigola police limits of the block. The deceased was identified as Ranjeet Nayak (26) and the accused Prabhat Kumura (34). Sources said on Wednesday evening, the duo had met and consumed liquor together. They reportedly had some argument over an issue which led to the crime. In a fit of rage, Prabhat went to Ranjeet’s house and assaulted his father Banguru. He later went back after Ranjeet intervened. However, Prabhat was still in a vindictive mood. Later that night, he went again to Ranjeet’s house armed with a sharp weapon and hacked him to death.

On getting information, Khairpali outpost in-charge Gopabandhu Behera arrived at the spot and arrested the accused. The body was seized for postmortem.

Deogarh SDPO informed that a forensic team has reached and probe has been initiated into the matter on Thursday. Police also informed that Prabhat confessed to the crime during interrogation.
