Zero Fatality Week: Couple mowed down by speeding truck in Odisha’s Nuapada

Komna: An elderly man and his wife were killed as the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck near Maniguda village on NH-353 under Komna police limits in Nuapada, today.

The deceased couple was identified as 56-year-old Jayaram Majhi and his wife 50-year-old Ghunamati Majhi, who belonged to Aenlajuba village in Khariar Road of the district.

According to a local police source, the husband-wife duo was on their way on a motorcycle (bearing registration number OD-26 F-9716) to Komna from elsewhere when they met with an accident. The truck (registration number CG-04 NT-0187) coming from the opposite direction hit the couple.

Jayaram died on the spot in the fatal road mishap, an eyewitness expressed.

On being informed by some locals, a team of Komna police reached the spot and rescued Ghunamati, and sent her to Nuapada district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition.

However, doctors at the health facility declared the woman ‘brought dead’.

Komna police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and launched a probe which is underway, Taraboda outpost in-charge Gourishankar Das said.
