1st-year VIMSAR students bring charges of ragging against seniors in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Burla: Some 1st-year students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla brought charges of ragging against two senior students of the educational institution, today. Acting on the allegation, the anti-ragging committee in VIMSAR initiated a probe in this regard.

According to a source, VIMSAR is going to organise an inter-college annual event with the participation of students from medical colleges in the State. A preparatory meeting was held in its auditorium on May 23 for the purpose, when the 1st-year students allegedly faced the untoward situation.

The victims were ill-treated by a fourth-year and a final-year student. The accused students used filthy language against the juniors and mentally tortured them.

Based on a written complaint, the committee led by Dean and Principal Professor Jayashree Dora held a meeting to chalk out the next course of action.

Despite several attempts for views, Principal Dora did not pick up any phone calls.

When contacted, warden professor Brajabihari Panda admitted that ragging charges were brought by 1st-year students of VIMSAR.

As the names of supposedly accused students were wrongly mentioned in the complaint, no conclusion could be arrived at. Besides, a detailed probe is underway, the warden expressed. “If any concrete proof will be found, action would be taken against the wrongdoers,” Professor Panda said.
