2 brothers killed in road mishap in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: Two brothers were reportedly killed when a pickup van hit the motorcycle they were riding on JKPur-Kalyansingpur road in Rayagada district of Odisha today.

The deceased have been identified as Bulu Beniya (37) and Manoj Beniya (25) of Rampur village in Karlakana panchayat under Kolnara block in Rayagada district, police said.

According to sources, the mishap occurred when the duo was returning home after finishing some work in Rayagada town at 4 pm.

The speeding pickup ban (OD18G-0755) hit the motorcycle (OD18K-5572) from the front. Bulu and Manoj died on the spot, sources said.

On being informed by the locals, a police team led by Chandili Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Yashwant Hial reached the spot and seized the pickup van. However, the driver managed to escape, sources said.

Seeking adequate compensation and stern action against the driver of the pickup van, the victims’ family members along with the villagers staged a road blockade on the spot.

Vehicular traffic on JKPur-Kalyansingpur road was halted due to the agitation, sources said.
