23 Odisha districts issued severe heatwave warning for five days

Bhubaneswar: Though many of Odisha are witnessing thunderstorm and rainfall spells, impact of heatwave is yet to decrease in the state.

A report issued by Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), predicts severe heat wave in as many as 23 districts of the state.

Maximum temperature forecast for five days (May 31 to June 4) predicts that Angul (Banarpal and Angul blocks), Balasore (Bhogarai, Oupada and Nilgiri blocks), Bargarh (Sohela, Ambabhona and Bheden blocks), Bhadrak (Bhandaripokhari block), Bolangir (Gudvela, Tureikela and Khaprakhol blocks), Boudh (Boudh and Kantamal blocks), Cuttack (Athagarh, Kantapada and Nischintakoili blocks), Gajapati (Guma and Mohana blocks), Ganjam (Aska, Bhanjanagar, Chhatrapur, Hinjilicut, Polsara, and Sorada blocks), Jagatsinghpur (Balikuda, Jagatsinghpur and Kujang blocks), Jajpur (Bari, Dasarathpur and Dharmasala blocks) and Jharsuguda (Laikira block) will reel under the impact of severe heatwave.

Similarly, temperature will cross the 40 degree Celsius mark and exceed 7 degrees Celsius when compared to the daily average due to severe heatwave in Kandhamal (Baliguda and Tumudibandha blocks), Kendrapara (Kendrapara, Mahakalpada, Marsaghai and Rajkanika blocks), Keonjhar (Hatadihi, Champua and Banspal blocks), Khordha (Jatani, Bolagad and Begunia blocks), Koraput (Pottangi, Lamptaput, Laxmipur and Boriguma blocks), Mayurbhanj (Tiring, Sukruli, Bisoi, and Baripada blocks), Nabarangpur (Paparahandi block), Nayagarh (Khandapada and Bhapur blocks), Puri (Kanas, Gop and Brahmagiri blocks), Rayagada (Padmapur and Gunupur blocks), Sambalpur (Jamankira block) and Sundergarh (Sundergarh, Balisankara and Lephripara blocks).

Warnings have been issued for the general public to stay indoors, not venture out between 12 noon and 3 pm, avoid strenuous activities outside in the afternoon , drink sufficient water, and other liquid supplements to stay hydrated, keep animals in shade and give them plenty of water to drink.

Similarly, workers have been cautioned to avoid direct sunlight, increase length of of rest breaks if working outside, schedule strenuous jobs during cooler times of the day and drink sufficient cool water.
