BJP demands hit-and-run case against Odisha MP

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought a hit-and-run case against Rajya Sabha MP Niranjan Bishi.

A scooterist had died when the Rajya Sabha MP’s car hit the two-wheeler at Tamia Chhak in Patnagarh area of Bolangir on May 24.

The deceased was identified as Tankadhar Biswal (35) of Indapur village under Larambha police limits, sources said.

The driver of the vehicle surrendered at the Larambha police station soon after the road mishap, sources added.

The Rajya Sabha MP, however, claimed that he was not travelling in the car at the time of the accident.

Addressing a presser at Kantabanji today, Bolangir district BJP president Sibaji Mohanty alleged that the Rajya Sabha MP was present inside the car when the mishap took place.

“The Rajya Sabha MP forced his driver to surrender before police soon after the incident. The police are trying to shield the MP in connection with the case. They should register a hit-and-run case against the Rajya Sabha MP,” said the BJP leader.

He also sought adequate compensation to the next of the kin of the victim.

“We will be forced to launch an agitation if police do not take appropriate action against the Rajya Sabha MP,” added the BJP leader.
