Durga Ashtami Vrat is a dedicated observance to worship the divine Goddess Durga. Masik Durga Ashtami is observed on the eighth day (ashtami tithi) of the waxing phase (shukla paksha) of each month according to the Hindu calendar.

During this auspicious day, a ritual called Astra Puja takes place, wherein the weapons of Goddess Durga are worshipped. It is also known as Virashtami.

Devotees observe a fast and offer prayers to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga on this occasion.

Tithi Time: September 22, 01:35 PM – September 23, 12:18 PM.

The rituals of Durga Ashtami Vrat involve devotees waking up early in the morning, taking a bath, and making various offerings to the Goddess, such as flowers, sandalwood paste, and incense (dhoop).

A special food offering called Naivedya is prepared for the Goddess.

Fasting holds great significance during Durga Ashtami Vrat. Observers of this vrat refrain from consuming food and liquids throughout the day.

Some devotees choose to observe the fast by consuming only milk and fruits.

On this day, it is strictly forbidden to consume non-vegetarian food and alcohol.

As an act of devotion, vrat observers sleep on the floor.

Chanting the mantras of the Goddess and reciting the Durga Chalisa are also practiced by devotees on this day. Towards the end of the puja, they narrate the Durga Ashtami Vrat katha (narrative).

After completing the puja rituals, vrat observers offer food and donations (dakshina) to Brahmins.

In the evening, devotees visit temples dedicated to Goddess Durga.

The significance of Durga Ashtami Vrat lies in seeking spiritual growth and the blessings of Goddess Durga.

It is believed that those who observe the Durga Ashtami Vrat with utmost dedication will be bestowed with happiness and good fortune.
