Five killed as truck runs into wedding procession in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: What should have been a joyful and memorable occasion quickly turned into a scene of sorrow and despair as a devastating accident unfolded during a wedding procession in Keonjhar district. Shockingly, the mishap resulted in the loss of at least five lives, with nine others sustaining injuries.

The heart-wrenching incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday at Sathighar Sahi, situated near National Highway-20. The injured victims were promptly transported to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital for urgent medical attention.

According to sources, the wedding ceremony was set to unite the daughter of Kartik Patra, a resident of Sathighar Sahi, with Hemanta Patra, the son of Hadibandhu Patra from Manpur village, located in the Harichandanpur block. In a celebratory display, the groom and the wedding party were joyously parading with DJ music when tragedy struck. A truck collided with the procession, mere meters away from the bride’s house.

Tragically, five individuals lost their lives on the spot, while nine others suffered severe injuries. Prompt response from the fire services personnel allowed for the injured to be swiftly transported to the district headquarters hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The mishap sparked tension and grief among the witnesses and attendees present at the scene. Among the deceased were the groom’s nephew and another individual from their side, while two other victims hailed from Sathighar Sahi.
