Goods train derails near Sivalingapuram in Andhra; trains cancelled

Koraput: Train movement on the Koraput-Kottavalasa route has been affected after a goods train derailed as a huge boulders dislodged from the hills and fell on the track due to landslide today.

As per Railway sources, the incident took place few kilometers from Sivalingapuram station in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagram district. The landslide occurred as a result of low-pressure induced incessant rain.

The driver of the goods train applied sudden brake after spotting the landslide owing which the engine and one bogie derailed.

Accident Relief Medical Train has been dispatched to the site for restoration works after detachment of the derailed coaches.

As a result of the incident, four trains have been cancelled and one train has been diverted.

Kirandul-Araku- Visakhapatnam Express and Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Passenger train have been cancelled from both directions. On the other hand, the Kirandul-Araku- Visakhapatnam Express scheduled to depart tonight has been diverted. The train will reach its destination via Rayagada, Railway sources added.
