IGIT engineering student dead, friend critically injured in road mishap in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Parjang: A student of Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) in Sarang was killed on the spot today and his friend sustained grievous injuries as the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck head-on at Kanjipani Ghati in Keonjhar district.

The deceased was identified as Om Prakash Nayak, who belonged to Kusumi village under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district. The identity of the injured has not been ascertained yet, a senior cop said.

According to a police source, the two students of IGIT along with their four friends were on their way to Maa Tarini temple in Ghatagaon on three separate motorcycles to have Darshan of the presiding deity when they met with a fatal accident in the morning.

The two youths fell on the ground after their motorcycle had a head-on collision leading to the untimely death of Om Prakash, an eyewitness expressed.

Some locals rescued the injured and admitted him to hospital in critical condition for treatment.

A pall of gloom descended on Kusumi village after news of Om Prakash’s death spread.

Notably, Om Prakash belonged to a poor family. His parents had dreams of seeing him as an engineer.
