Odisha Assembly Budget Session: COVID-19 protocols to be eased

Bhubaneswar: As the Budget Session of the Odisha Assembly is all set to begin on February 18, protocols for functioning of the House amidst COVID-19 pandemic will be eased, said Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro while taking stock of the preparations ahead of the session.

Briefing mediapersons, the Speaker said as the COVID-19 situation in the state has improved to some extent, SOPs for functioning of the House will be relaxed this time.

“Question Hour, which was cancelled in the last two session of the State Legislative Assembly due to the pandemic, will be held in the upcoming session. The House will have total 31 business days and will run till April 9. The budget will be tabled on February 22 and discussion will be held on February 25,” Patro informed.

He further informed that COVID-19 test of legislators and other staff of the House before the session will no more be mandatory. Only people showing the symptoms will undergo Antigen test.

The house will be sanitized regularly.  However, legislators can join the session through video conferencing, the Speaker added.
