Odisha: Burglars lock up couple in bathroom and decamp with valuables in State Capital

Bhubaneswar: Dacoits looted cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables late Friday night by locking up a couple in the bathroom at Maruti Vihar in Nadankanan locality on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

According to a source, seven to eight armed burglars barged into the house by breaking open a wooden window and an iron grill in the kitchen room at midnight. The couple had returned from a wedding function and was sleeping when the burglars entered the house. The dacoits took the couple and their two children to an attached bathroom and locked them up and thoroughly searched every room. Later, the miscreants accumulated valuables worth around Rs 7 lakh and decamped with them.

“The burglars were armed with weapons and they warned us not to shout. We were scared for our children’s safety and begged them not to harm us and rather take away all that they wanted to. They tied our hands with bed sheets and robbed,” the landlady expressed.

On being informed, Nandankanan police reached the spot and launched a probe.
