Jajpur: A Consumer Court has directed a TV company to give more than Rs 2 lakh to a customer of Byasanagar in Odisha's Jajpur district over a defective product.

According to reports, one Vinod Behera, a resident of Mohan Villa in Byasanagar, had in 2016 purchased a 55 inch TV of a popular brand at the cost of Rs 1.15 lakh. The company had provided him a guarantee of two years on the device.

The TV developed technical issues after around six months. As Vinod reported it to the customer care helpline of the company, the device was repaired.

However, the TV again developed issues multiple times. Allegedly, the company didn't provide him repairing service this time.

He had lodged a complaint in this connection with the Jajpur Road police in August of 2020, following which the company had assured him to provide a new TV within a month. However, the company didn't keep its promise.

Vinod eventually moved the consumer court seeking compensation.

Hearing the petition, the court ordered the company to give him Rs 1.15 lakh (TV's price) with interest, Rs 1 lakh towards mental harassment and Rs 30,000 towards legal service expenses within a month.
