Odisha Floods: Breach becomes nightmare for people in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: Depression-induced incessant rainfall and subsequent rise in water level in river followed by breach in embankment has inundated several low-lying areas in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The Kujang block of the district has been severely affected with a 70-feet-long breach in Mahanadi near Badabalikani. Flood water has already rushed into Sanabalikani, Badabalikani, Sarali, Kolara, Hansura, Kathakota, Gobardhanpur and Khosalpur villages.

The district administration has initiated evacuation of people residing in the low-lying areas to safe places.

Another breach in Paika river near Kathakot village in Kujang block was reported today. The administration has also started evacuation process in the nearby areas.

On the other hand, flood water was flowing at 59 feet mark at Dalei Ghai in the district against the danger mark of 57 feet.

The Jagatsinghpur Collector today cancelled leaves of all government employees in the district in view of the flood situation. The employees have been directed remain present in their respective offices while those on leave were asked to join duty immediately.
