Odisha man dupes job seekers by posing as CBI officer; held

Bhubaneswar: The police today arrested a person on charges of posing as a CBI officer and duping four job seekers of above Rs 2 lakh in Sundargarh district of Odisha.

The accused has been identified as Umesh Tanti of Pandaridhipa area under Sundargarh Town police limits.

According to police, Tanti had identified himself as a CBI officer and collected Rs 2.25 lakh from four job seekers, including three girls, of Subdega Tangargaon area in Sundargarh on promise of arranging jobs in Indian Railways.

Tanti had promised to arrange nurse and other jobs in Indian Railways against a payment of Rs 5 lakh from each of the job seekers. He had collected around 50,000 from each of the job seekers in the first phase. However, the accused did not keep his promise, sources said.

The duped job seekers lodged an FIR in this regard with Sundargarh Town police. The cops registered a case and arrested the accused, sources added.
