Odisha Police personnel critical after gun goes off ‘accidentally’
It is still unclear whether it was a weapon mishap due to inadvertent handling of the gun or a suicide attempt.
Koraput: In a shocking incident, a police personnel suffered critical bullet injuries after a gun reportedly misfired at the SP office in Koraput district of Odisha today. The victim was identified as Narendra Biswal holding the rank of a deputy subedar. It is still unclear whether it was a weapon mishap due to inadvertent handling of the gun or a suicide attempt.
As per reports, Biswal suffered grievous injuries on the left side of his face after the gun misfired at around 11.30 am in the SP office. He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital for preliminary treatment. As his condition deteriorated, an ambulance was arranged and the victim was shifted to Visakhapatnam by efforts of the SP, DIG and other police officials present.
Police have still not confirmed whether it was an accident or an attempt by the victim to end his life. Further details are awaited.
