Parents clash with cops while supplying cheat sheets in Odisha

Dhenkanal: Parents of the students appearing for Matric exam and police had a face-off while the former were trying to provide cheat sheets to candidates at the Janata Government High School, Biribolei in Dhenkanal district today.

When English paper of Matriculation exam was on, some parents jumped the wall of the examination centre. In the meantime, police personnel deployed at the centre allegedly resorted to lathicharge and beat up the trespassers. One man, identified as Dambaru Sahu of Patharagada village was injured in the police action.

As per reports, Dambaru was trying to move towards the centre after jumping the wall. However, Dambaru denied the charges and said he was sitting on the school’s boundary wall when police beat him up.

On the other hand, a police official said Dambaru was injured when he fell off the boundary wall after seeing cops. Dambaru has been admitted to the local hospital.

Students of Bapuji High School, Gadapalasuni; Jhili Turadanali High School; Panchayat High School, Ghagaramunda; Anchalik VIdyaniketan, Sinduramundi were appearing the Matriculation exam at the centre.

In another incident, a journalist was injured in an attack by a teacher while covering a report of alleged malpractice at Maneipada exam centre in Patnagarh of Bolangir district. The teacher allegedly took money from parents of candidates to provide cheat sheets. But due to the presence of CCTV cameras at the exam centre, the teacher failed to provide cheat sheets during the exam.

Resented over the matter, the parents created a ruckus outside the exam centre. After receiving information, the journalist reached the spot to cover the news when he was attacked by the teacher.

Based on a police complaint, the teacher was detained and questioned about the issue.
