Sambalpur: Hirakud dam closes 10 gates as water inflow decreases

Sambalpur: In view of the decrease in water inflow into Hirakud dam, authorities today closed 10 sluice gates (7 on the left and 3 on the right) of the reservoir.

Earlier, the floodwater was discharged through 20 gates of the dam into downstream.

With the closure of 10 gates, the water is currently being released through 10 gates.

While 1000 cusec water is flowing in Bargarh main canal, 68 cusec water is released into Sambalpur distributaries and 251 cusec water is being provided to various industries, the source said.
