Two JN.1 variant COVID cases identified in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as two cases of JN.1 variant of COVID-19 virus have been identified in Odisha, said Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director of Health Services, Odisha.

“After genome sequencing, the two cases were identified. The first person hails from Sundargarh and had returned from Kerala. He was undergoing treatment at home. Currently, he has no symptoms. His contacts are also asymptomatic,” said Mohapatra.

“The second case is an 83-year-old man, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. His condition was normal,” he added.

JN.1 is a sub-variant of the Omicron lineage and more transmissible than previous strains of this series. The symptoms include fever, cough, cold, headache, gastrointestinal disorders and breathing issues.
