Youth shot dead over political rivalry in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A youth was allegedly shot dead over political rivalry at Khalana village under Ramachandrapur police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, today.

Another person sustained critical injuries in the incident and was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

According to reports, a dispute was prevailing between two groups of the BJD in the area over panchayat poll results. A heated exchange of words had taken place between members of the two groups, yesterday.

This afternoon, Sunanda Sethi (32) and Chandan Behera (23) were returning home from Sainkula market when a youth of the village intercepted them, attacked the two with a sharp weapon and fired at the duo.

While Sunanda sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot, Chandan was grievously injured and taken to the hospital.

On being informed, police reached the village and started an investigation into the incident. Efforts were on by cops to trace and apprehend the accused.

Tension ran high in the locality after the firing as locals ransacked a police vehicle.
