Bhubaneswar: Newly-wed woman dies under mysterious circumstances, husband held

Bhubaneswar: A newly-wed woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Sarakantara under Khandagiri police limits in Odisha capital.

The deceased was identified as Prabhavati Nayak (27) of Tihidi area in Bhadrak district. She had married one Prakash Khuntia of Sarakantara on April 28.

As per the family members of Prakash, she ended her life by hanging herself to a ceiling fan inside the house on May 29 night.

However, mother of the deceased woman alleged that her daughter was murdered by her in-laws.

“My daughter was being tortured by her in-laws after the marriage over dowry demand. Her husband was harassing her demanding a gold bracelet as dowry. They killed my daughter and then hanged the body to the ceiling fan,” she alleged.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Prabhavati’s mother, Khandagiri police registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC and arrested Prakash.

Further probe by police was underway to ascertain whether her in-laws are involved in the alleged murder or not.

The body was recovered by police and sent to the Capital Hospital for treatment.
