Dumped to die, newborn boy found crying in drain in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A passerby was caught off guard when he heard a faint cry coming out of a drain in Odisha capital today and upon enquiry he found a newborn boy wrapped in a cloth, dumped to die in the sewer.

The baby was found from a drain at New Colony near Sainik School, a few meters away from Apollo Hospital here.

The baby was immediately taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Apollo Hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.

According to reports, the man after finding the infant abandoned in the drain, first informed some locals and then dialled the Commissionerate Police, following which a PCR van came and admitted the child to the nearby Apollo Hospital.

On being informed, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members rushed to the hospital and started enquiring into the matter.

Meanwhile, police is trying to ascertain the identity of the child and have begun investigation when and who dumped the baby.
