Nor’wester rain provides sweltering Odisha much needed respite

Bhubaneswar/Cuttack/Balasore: People from different parts of the State heaved a sigh of relief today evening after light rain under the impact of Nor’wester (kalabaisakhi) lashed many places. After the gruelling heat for more than two weeks in Odisha, the Nor’wester rain provided the much needed respite.

The temperature in the State’s twin city—Bhubaneswar and Cuttack—came down significantly following the light rain for few hours. Denizens, who experienced simmering heat for past few days, enjoyed the rain shower the most.

A resident of Bhubaneswar said this rain was a much-needed relief from the rising maximum temperature day by day which was making the life difficult.

As per reports, Balasore, the northern part of the State, also experienced rain due to Nor’wester for significant period bringing respite for the residents.

The data provided by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, showed a total of 18 places of the State recorded maximum day temperature at 40 degrees Celsius or above. Of them, six places recorded day temperature at 43 degrees Celsius or above. Boudh was the hottest in the State at 44.5 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for the following districts:

Day 1 (valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2022) Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi.

Day-2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2022up to 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2022): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam.

Day-3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2022): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Puri, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam,

Day-4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 07.05.2022): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Day-5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.05.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 08.05.2022): Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.
