Ravenshaw varsity unrest: Sine die to be lifted tomorrow, exams from May 17

Cuttack: The sine die at the Ravenshaw University in Odisha’s Cuttack will be lifted tomorrow (May 12) by 5 pm, informed vice-chancellor (VC) Ishan Patro today.

The remaining examinations of all departments of the varsity will be held between May 17 and 20 while results will be declared on May 27, the VC said.

It may be recalled here that students of the university, who were on a dharna protesting the university’s decision to declare the institution sine die and hike fees, had yesterday called off their strike after a meeting with the varsity authorities.

The premier educational institution of the state was closed sine die on May 9 following student unrest. The university authorities asked the students to vacate their hostel rooms and campus after hundreds of students staged demonstration and gheraoed the VC office protesting against fee hike.

They also demanded withdrawal of decision made by the university to introduce compulsory fooding for hostel inmates and instant examination system for plus three final year students.

Notably, the authorities hiked the fee and asked the students to vacate the hostels by May 28 for renovation work.
