Gauri Tapo Vrat or Gauri Vrat is observed by young girls and unmarried women. The day is dedicated to worshipping Goddess Parvati and is an important fasting day for unmarried women.

Tithi Begins: December 03, 2021 4:56 PM.

Tithi Ends: December 04, 2021 1:13 PM.

Gauri Tapo Vrat Rituals

On this day, unmarried women wake up early in the morning and take bath.

Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshipped by the devotees on this day.

Offerings in the form of kumkum, akshata, dhoop, flowers and incense sticks are made to the seities.

Observers of Gauri Tapo Vrat keep partial fasting on this day. They only consume food made from ghee, wheat flour and milk.

Consumption of salt is not advised during the vrat.

During the Gauri Vrat fasting, there is a unique ritual of growing corn in a small pot.

Sun God and these tender corn shoots are also worshipped on this day.

After the worshipping rituals, the corn shoots are eaten as ‘prasad’.

The remaining shoots are distributed among other family members.

Gauri Tapo Vrat Significance

According to the Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati first observed this vrat to have Lord Shiva as Her husband.

Therefore, unmarried girls observe this vrat to get husband of their choice.
