Odisha: Six more arrested for Puri violence, total rises to 92

Puri: As many as six persons have been arrested in connection with their alleged involvement in violence during Puri bandh on October 03, police said today.

With this, the total number of arrested persons increased to 92.

As per the available information, the Singhadwara police arrested six persons today on the basis of CCTV footage.

They were booked for arson, damaging public property, loot and violence during Puri bandh.

All the six accused were later court forwarded, police said.

Earlier this month, five policemen, including one havildar and four constables were placed under suspension for negligence in discharging duties during the bandh in the Pilgrim City when the irate mob ransacked the house of Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty.

Notably, on October 3, Jagannath Sena activists, devotees and servitors took to streets protesting introduction of queue system atteh centuries-old temple. The angry mob had vandalized all barricades on the Bada Danda (Grand Road) and ransacked the office of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and residence of the Minister.
