The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), which is setting up a 2x 800 mw thermal power plant at Darlipali village of Lephripara block in Sundargarh district, has urged the Odisha government to accord administrative approval for laying of pipelines to draw water from Hirakud reservoir.
“We require a corridor of approximately 525 acres on Right of User basis for three years to carry out the construction activities in the district of Sundargarh and Jharsuguda. The corridor consists of private land (approx. 278 acre), government land (approx. 195 acre, including submerged land of Hirakud reservoir) and forest land (approx. 52 acres). After the pipelines are laid and buried, the land could be returned to the owners for their normal use. So, it is requested to accord administrative approval for NTPC Ltd to use this land on the Right of User basis,” said SK Ready, general manager of NTPC, Darlipali project.
Based on the letter, the Energy department has asked the Sundargarh district Collector to take necessary action in this regard.
The Board of Directors of the Company has already accorded the investment approval for Darlipali power project, which will come up at an investment of Rs. 12532.44 crore subject to environmental clearance of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
