Odisha police today arrested the main accused in the murder of poet Bipin Acharya’s wife on Thursday evening here.
Ainthapali police arrested one Sriram Panda from here for allegedly killing poet Bipin Acharya’s wife Pankajini on Thursday when the victim’s husband was away for an evening walk, sources said.
Police seized the murder weapon, jewellery and cash looted from the house of the Acharyas at SRIT Colony in the city.
While the prime accused has been arrested, one more accused is still at large, police sources said.
It may be recalled that the 65-year-old woman was found murdered in her bedroom with injury marks on her neck and head.
The elderly couple was staying alone here since several years as their two sons and three daughters are residing outside.
Taking advantage of this, the miscreants sneaked into the house and attacked the woman after her husband left for an evening walk at around 7.30 pm. When he returned from the walk at around 9.20 pm, he found his wife in a pool of blood and house ransacked.
The Ainthapali police reached the spot and had begun investigation into the incident.
