Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall may play spoilsport during the third phase of twin polls in Odisha on May 25 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning in this regard.

As per the agency, a low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal around 22nd May. It is likely to move initially northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by morning of 24th May.

Rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely to occur over north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on 24th and 25th May, the IMD forecasted.

Date-wise rainfall forecast for Odisha

May 24: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Cuttack.

May 25: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Keonjhar.

Sea condition warning

Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over central Bay of Bengal from 23rd May and over north Bay of Bengal from 24th May onwards.

Fishermen Warning: Fishermen have been advised not to venture into central Bay of Bengal from 23rd May and into north Bay of Bengal from 24th May onwards. Fishermen out at sea have been advised to return to the coast before 23rd May.
